April 17, 2022 – Activity for Sunday’s Service “Exiting the Tomb… Celebrating New Life!”

April 14, 2022 by admin

“Exiting the Tomb… Celebrating New Life!”
Sunday, April 17th 10:30 AM

Color a Symbolic Image of Your Resurrection

The Jewish Holy Day of Passover is about overcoming and liberation and the Christian Holy Day of Easter is about the awakening and transformation of consciousness. These holy days are celebrated during the season of spring, a time of renewal and the blossoming of new life that follows the bareness and the bitterness of winter.

During the service on Sunday, April 10th, I discussed the metaphysical meaning of the crucifixion, the tomb, and the resurrection as the interplay of shadow and light aspects within and as the symbolic stages of our spiritual growth process.

The crucifixion represents the painful endings in our lives.  Entering the tomb or the void is a necessary stage we are asked to experience after significant endings in our lives.  According to Unity Minister and author, Robert Brumet, “The Void is a rite of passage in which the initiate encounters his/her transformational power, but first must face the dark side of himself/herself.  The void is a period when we shed the husks of our old self in order to become more of who we truly are.”

The stage of the void requires resilience, determination, strength, self-compassion, and faith to endure the process of relinquishing self-limiting beliefs and behaviors that are familiar yet contribute to our pain and suffering. Frequently, individuals are tempted to bypass this uncomfortable stage and erroneously believe their suffering can be alleviated by changing the physical circumstances of their lives without doing the inner spiritual work of reflection, acceptance, and letting go.

During the service on April 10th, I also invited each one of you to courageously identify and be willing to bless and relinquish through the practices of prayer, meditation, and self-compassion one of the following:

  • An inner war you are experiencing
  • A self-limiting belief that you are willing to shed
  • An unhealthy behavior you are willing to shed

During your practice of reflection, acceptance, and release, I invite you to uncover the blessing offered by your personal inner struggles and conflict and become aware of the transformative power it offers you. It is your teacher and is an invitation to step into a more expansive expression of your Divine Nature.

In preparation for our Sunday service on April 17th, I have attached coloring pages of images that represent the dance between the dark and the light aspects we experience on the journey of spiritual awakening and transformation.

I invite you to choose one to color.  The image you choose will be a symbol of what you are shedding and the transformation you are claiming for yourself.

You will be given an opportunity to share your image and its symbolism during the service and again during fellowship.

Let us come together to celebrate the courage, strength, resilience, and transformational power we each possess.

Let us rejoice in the promise and celebration of new life!

Love, and Light,
Rev. Angela

Maundy Thursday Service

April 14, 2022
7 PM

The name “Maundy Thursday” comes from the Latin Dias Mandatum, which means the “day of the new commandment. At the Last Supper the Master Teacher, Jesus, told the Disciples that the greatest commandment is to Love another. Come and experience the Last Supper through the metaphysical lens as we reflect on the Cosmic Readings of Love from the Gospel of John, virtually break bread with one another, and deepen our embodiment of our 12 Spiritual Powers represented by the 12 Apostles.

NOTE:
Please bring a glass of wine or grape juice and a piece of bread to the virtual service.

Easy Steps to Create a Beautiful Organic Garden

April 1, 2022 by admin

by Ingrid Justick:

Vol. 28, No. 3

Creating an organic garden means fulfilling a longing for nature, for beauty, for self-expression, and for the simple act of growing – both within ourselves and our land. In organic gardening, we can invent our own beautiful world, a miniature paradise that gives abundant joy to us and everyone who visits. When gardening, we slow down, breathe deeply, and cultivate patience. Following are some timesaving suggestions:

Plant Choices: Most gardeners grow the flowers they consider most beautiful and vegetables that are most tasty, but if you want a garden to be easy, also consider how much effort particular plants require. Some of the lowest maintenance garden plants are perennials. But since perennials only bloom for one or two months each season, add easy-to-grow annuals including begonias, impatiens, marigolds, and petunias. These annuals will bloom all summer.

Native Plants: The easiest plants to grow in your garden are those that grow native in your region. The non-profit organization, Native Plant Society of New Jersey (www.npsnj.org) offers lists of regional native plants..

Roses: Difficult to grow, but Conrad Pyle’s Knock Out Roses are easy to grow and resistant to diseases and insects and require no toxic chemicals to preserve their beauty.

Tomatoes: Easy to grow but select a variety resistant to disease and insects common in your area. Call your local agricultural extension office and ask which tomato plants they recommend.

Plant Some Herbs: They are almost care free, but very rarely develop a disease and their beautiful scents attract butterflies to your garden.

Some of the following techniques take time to implement early in the season, but they pay off in time saved later:

🙫  Add a 2-inch layer of compost to your garden and mix it with your soil to a depth of about 4 inches before you plant. Nutrients in compost create a stronger, healthier plant that is better able to fend off diseases and pests. If possible, make your own compost.

🙫  Snake a soaker hose through your garden and let it weep water from its tiny holes to your plants for a few hours a day. This saves time from watering by hand. Bury the hose about 1-2 inches beneath the soil.

🙫  To save time try rollout paper much to keep out weeds, which compete with your plants for water and soil nutrients. You do not have to remove rollout paper mulch in the autumn; it deteriorates into the soil.

🙫   Most insects are beneficial to plants and those that cause problems tend to harm only one plant species. Grow a wide variety of plants and if insects claim one or two, eliminate those plants next year, or look for a variety resistant to that pest.

May your organic garden be a healthy experience
for yourself and your environment.
