Unity teachings invite individuals into being conscious creators of spiritual living.
Unity teachings are based on universal spiritual principles and premises and that run like a thread through many Faith Traditions of the world. These teachings and principles seem to govern humankind no matter where we live, how we view God, Infinite Potential, or even whether we are aware that they exist. They have been expressed in many ways through thousands of years, but the essence of them is this:
- God Is
God is the Infinite Field of Pure Potential from which all life is created. - I AM
I AM a unique expression of God, the Cosmic Life Force, here to awaken to my Divinity and shine my light powerfully in service to others. - I Create
I am a wise and powerful creator of life. What I energize in thought, feeling, and in action has the power to create my experience. - I Pray & Meditate
Affirmative prayer and meditation empower me to align my consciousness to Spiritual Truth. Prayer and meditation are powerful practices that can help heal me and transform my life. - I Live Truth
It is not enough to study and understand Universal spiritual teachings. We must live the Truth we know.
Jesus
Jesus was a human being who was a masterful spiritual teacher, healer, activist, and mystic who realized Christ Consciousness, an enlightened consciousness, like Buddha, Yogandna, Saint Teresa of Avila, and Rumi etc.
The Christ
The innate Divine Potential within all human beings.
Christ Consciousness
State of elevated consciousness, self-realization, enlightenment, Buddha Nature etc.
Are we a Church or Spiritual Community?
We believe that the true temple can be found within one’s own Spiritual Heart-Mind which can be accessed anytime or anywhere by becoming still and going within, therefore, we call ourselves a spiritual community.
We believe there is power in community. We come together to celebrate and support one another along the journey of life. Through relationships we embrace and uplift each other. The true church is not made of creeds and forms, nor is it contained in walls of wood and stone; the heart of humankind is its temple and the Spirit of truth is the one guide into all Truth. When humankind learns to turn within to the Spirit of truth, who is in each one for his light and inspiration, the differences between the churches of man will be eliminated, and the one church will be recognized.
Prayer
When most people think of prayer, they think of asking God for something. Not so in Unity.
Unity uses “affirmative prayer.” Rather than begging or beseeching God, this method involves connecting with the spirit of God within and asserting positive beliefs about the desired outcome.
Bible
The Bible is broken into the Hebrew Scripture, The Old Testament, and the Christian Scriptures, the New Testament. According to Charles Fillmore, co-founder of the Unity Movement, Scripture is rich with meaning that reflects the evolution of consciousness in humankind.
The characters and places in Scripture represent different phases of humankind’s unfoldment.
In deciphering the meaning of the rich narratives contained within the Bible, one must look beyond the literal interpretation. To uncover the spiritual meaning and relevance of the text one must understand the historical, symbolic, metaphoric, and metaphysical, beyond the physical, contexts.
