March 2, 2021 – Virtual Release and Renew Ceremony

Virtual Release and Renew Ceremony

Forty Days of Releasing and Renewing

March 2, 2022
7:00 pm

March 02, 2022, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of the Lenten season, which is observed by many Christian Faith communities worldwide.  During the season of Lent, the forty days leading up to Easter Sunday, many individuals focus on simple living, prayer, and fasting in order to awaken and be transformed.

New Thought Communities like Unity invite individuals of all faith traditions into the devotional practice of Forty Days of Releasing and Renewing.   Releasing is the practice of relinquishing your energy from thoughts, beliefs, words, and behaviors that stand in the way of living more peacefully, authentically, and with meaning and purpose.  Renewing, on the other hand, is the daily practice of energizing thoughts and ways of being that foster peace, gratitude, appreciation, compassion, personal growth and transformation, and being of service to others.

By consciously engaging your Spiritual Powers of Elimination, Life, and Dominion you have an opportunity on a daily basis during Lent and throughout the year to let go of limiting ways of being and to animate thoughts, words, and actions that enhance our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Please join me in a reflective prayer ceremony where you will have an opportunity to make a commitment to relinquish your energy from dis-empowering thoughts and behaviors, affirm Truth, and select a Spiritual Power to consciously embody for the next 40 days. I invite you to bring a dab of oil with you to this service, for it will be used to anoint your forehead, third eye.

Love and light,
Rev. Angela Denton

Gardening Solutions to Address Climate Change

February 3, 2022 by admin

by Ingrid Justick:

Vol. 28, No. 2

Climate change is probably the greatest threat our earth has to face. Unless we take significant action to reduce global warming, we will face more frequent and severe weather extremes, the expansion of invasive pests and diseases, the disruption of the ecosystem and the extinction of thousands of species. As gardeners, we are guardians of our environment and there are many simple and thoughtful ways we can work with nature to solve problems.

It may still be winter, but perhaps you can make some changes in your plans for spring. Through the following actions, we can make an enormous difference in our gardens.

ELIMINATE LAWN AND GARDEN PESTICIDES and you prevent highly toxic chemicals form being released into rivers, streams and ground water. Just one ounce of diazinon can pollute 94 million gallons of water. Use natural methods of pest control. Use organic fertilizers.

IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY by replacing outdoor light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, installing outdoor automatic light timers and purchasing solar-powered garden products. Encourage local home and garden centers to carry energy efficient products. Reduce the use of gasoline-powered garden tools. Use electric or human-powered tools, such as push mowers, hand clippers and rakes. Consider replacing some of your lawn with low maintenance ground cover or native wildflowers. Plant with heirloom seeds. Increase biodiversity and attract butterflies to your garden.

REDUCE WATER CONSUMPTION. Actions include mulching, installing rain barrels, adjusting your watering schedule and using drip-irrigation. You can save six gallons of water every minute of watering by attaching a trigger nozzle to your garden hose. To reduce water pollution, develop a rain garden, which captures storm water runoff from heavy downpours and helps prevent it from entering into local lakes, streams and coastal waters.

COMPOST KITCHEN AND GARDEN WASTES. It reduces your contribution to global warming, especially methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas. Compost provides excellent nutrients for your garden, reducing the need for fertilizers, which pollute water supplies and consume much energy to produce.

PLANTING TREES near your home can shield it form hot sun in the summer and cold winds in winter, reducing energy use for air conditioning and heating. Trees and plants absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas responsible for climate change.

Let us all contribute to an abundant and healthful life
on our beautiful planet Earth.

Let Your Yoga Dance is a joyful celebration of body, mind and spirit. It’s a movement practice that everybody (EVERY BODY) can do because it’s offered in a safe, caring, and compassionate environment. Great for all ages, bodies, and abilities. No yoga or dance experience necessary.

In a virtual Let Your Yoga Dance class we build community and positivity resonance by combining gentle yoga (no twisting into pretzel shapes), user-friendly dance (no complicated choreography), creativity, and positive psychology with music from around the world. There is a connection between participants, in which self expression, laughter, and feelings of gratitude come alive. As we move through our seven energy centers of the body, the heart pumps, the brain is engaged, strength and balance are improved, and feelings of love and compassion are shared. Students receive a gentle yoga experience plus an aerobic workout without even knowing it. If you are five or ninety-five, you can participate in this fun-filled practice. There is no “required” floor work; have a chair available for those who wish to move from a seated position or simply take a break.

Everyone is a dancer! Come join us for this hour of FUN! Laughter and smiles are guaranteed 🙂

“Seed-A-Chair” Fundraiser

January 21, 2022 by admin

Help support the seeding and funding
of new chairs for our sanctuary!

Even though our fundraiser has ended, you can still contribute to the UBTS Community by clicking on the GIVE NOW button on the top of this page. All contributions will go toward the operating expenses of our community.

Here is what you can do:

  • Seed a seat:  Each $60 financial blessing from you will cover the cost for one chair. You are welcome to seed more than one.
  • With the purchase of each chair, you can commemorate a loved one or a life-event with your spot in our commemorative and celebratory slideshow that the very talented Matt Denton is putting together.
  • You can commemorate a loved one (human, furry, feathered, other) or a life-event per slide. Alternatively, you can provide an inspirational saying or a prayer that has meaning to you.
  • If you want to provide your own image for the slideshow, then please email it as soon as possible to Matt Denton at [email protected].  If an image is not provided in seven days of your chair purchase, then Matt will choose a beautiful one for you.
  • There is no limit to the number of chairs you can and wish to seed.
  • You can contribute any amount you choose without commemorating a loved one or a life-event. All contributors will get a mention on the slideshow (unless you wish to remain anonymous).

The Deadline to participate and contribute is February 28, 2022.

Early contributors, who act quickly, are much appreciated and will be placed first on our slide show.

Are you ready to go? Let’s do this!

“Seed-A-Chair” Fundraiser FAQs

January 21, 2022 by admin

Q: Can I contribute even thought the fundraiser is over?
A: ABSOLUTELY! Click the GIVE NOW button on the top of our website. Any contributions made at this point will go to support the operating expenses of our community.

Q: How much is one share / chair / slide?
A: $60

Q: Can I “seed” more than one chair?
A: Absolutely! Please do!

Q: Can I make a partial payment for a “Seed-A-Chair” and pay the rest later?
A: Unfortunately we are not set up for that. But you can make a donation of any size and be recognized at the end of the slide show.

Q: Can I pay by check?
A:
Of course you can! There are instructions on the order form. If you are sending a check for a combination of chairs and an additional contribution, tell us the total check amount in the box that asks for it (example: $650), and in the last box “NOTES” you can explain things to us, tell us something like this: “$600 (10 chairs) + $50 = $650”

Q: If $60 is too steep for me, can I still contribute?
A: Absolutely! Every dollar counts and is highly appreciated.

Q: I am ready to go and “Seed-A-Chair” (or multiple chairs)  – what do I do?
A: Go to our Seed-A-Chair website at: https://www.unitybytheshore.org/seedachair.  Once there, the form will guide you through the process from selecting the number of chairs you would like to “Seed” through selecting if you want to provide your own image (example: a picture of a loved one) or have Matt select one of his images for you.

Q: How do I send Matt my image(s) / dedication(s)? All in one (1) email or individually?
A: If you are purchasing multiple chairs, and are sending Matt multiple images/dedications, please send each image/dedication in a separate email. Please send all images/dedications to [email protected] within seven days of payment.

Example: If you are buying five (5) chairs, send Matt five (5) emails. Each email would have one (1) image and one (1) dedication.

Q: Is there a character limit for the dedications?
A:
Yes, up to 50 characters per dedication.

Q: What if I don’t send my image(s) within seven days?
A: Matt will select the image(s) for you.

Q: What images will Matt select.
A: Anything he chooses. Typically flowers and landscapes.

Q: I want to contribute but I don’t want to do any dedications. What do I do?
A: Yes, after you go through the purchase process, just don’t write anything in the Dedication box.

Q: What if I want to purchase a chair and stay anonymous?
A: By default, we will recognize anybody with any contribution of any size. If you do not want to be recognized, just let us know in the “NOTES” box on the form.

If you decide to stay Anonymous after completing the form, kindly send an email stating that you made a contribution, how and when you made it (and the amount if you have it handy), and that you want to stay anonymous to [email protected] and [email protected]. If you want to stay even more anonymous, feel free to contact Angela Denton, Joyce Hilary or Kerstin McKitrick – any person of your choice by any means that make you comfortable.

Q: Can I “Seed-A-Chair” for some with a dedication and give above that without a dedication?
A: Yes! Follow the procedure outlined above for “Seed-A-Chair”. You can “seed” all the chairs you want and simply tell us your wishes in the “NOTES” box. Alternatively, you can input the amount you want to contribute over the chair amount under “Additional Contribution.”

Q: Who will create the slides?
A: Matt Denton has kindly volunteered to take this on.

Q: Will the slides be the same size?
A: Most likely yes, but that is at the sole discretion of the artist, Matt Denton

Q: What order will the slides be in?
A: We want to recognize people who act early so they will be in “first come, first serve” order.

Q: What will happen to the slides?
A: About two weeks after the deadline for the fundraiser, we will “unveil” the slideshow. It will “live” on our website after that through December 31, 2022. We may elect to show it at special services or events. It will be accessible to all on our website during the calendar year of 2022.

Q: Whom do I contact if I have a question or obstacle?

  • For image and text related to image questions:
    • Matt Denton, [email protected]
  • For payment / technical related questions:
    • Lisa Sanchez, email: [email protected]
  • For Anonymous and/or sizable donation concerns, any of these three people:
