FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO
Sunday, June 17, 2012
12:30 PM

Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families — including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson — we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard’s Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.
“Daniel G. Karslake’s remarkable documentary boldly takes on a loaded topic — Christianity and homosexuality — and examines it both intellectually and emotionally; the result may well leave you blinking away a few tears.” – Moira Macdonald, Seattle Times
“Enlightening, heart-wrenching and uplifting. Grade: A- !” -Sean Means, Salt Lake Tribune
“Heartfelt and provocative…moving and rewardingly intimate. For Christian audiences, the film will prove most valuable in encouraging them to consider their beliefs in a spirit of serious examination rather than mindless acceptance, and to recognize how matters of faith can be easily co-opted by politics.” – Justin Chang, Variety
A loving discussion will follow.

FREE Concert for Tent City
Sunday, April 8, 2012
3 pm – 5 pm
Town Square, Lakewood, NJ
(corner of 4th and Clifton)
Unity by the Shore has lent support to this event, which features our talented members Rosemary Conte and sons Steve and John; our music director, Laura DuBois; our resident angel of gospel Gwendolyn Lewis; and singer/songwriter Jeanne O’Neill. Many popular Jersey Shore artists will also be featured in jazz, blues, rock, pop and inspirational music.
After spending time at the homeless encampment in the woods of Lakewood known as Tent City, Rosemary Conte felt compelled to organize a free event to bring live music to everyone—especially to people who have fallen on hard times and can’t afford to buy concert tickets or frequent clubs to hear music that can feed the spirit. And it’s important that the issue of homelessness garners more attention. Tent City is the home of people who have been let down by society and our government. Tent City is celebrated in this concert as a place where people have found a way to survive in an alternative community in the woods, ministered to by Rev. Steve Brigham. Rev. Steve lives in a school bus among the homeless war veterans, and others who have lost their jobs, their homes and otherwise can’t afford to live in the mainstream.
Please come and bring a lawn chair…it will be a warm and sunny day.
