Sunday, November 14, 2021 – A Time of Loss… A Time of Transformation

October 21, 2021 by admin

Dear Friends,

For the last several years, I have had the sacred honor and privilege of presiding over an annual remembrance service. During this service, we come together to acknowledge the members and friends of Unity by the Shore along with your personal loved ones who have made their transition during that calendar year.

During this year’s “A Time of Remembrance… A Time of Transformation” service, we will recognize and celebrate the beautiful soul Alma Penn, as well as, your dear ones who have journeyed beyond the veil in 2021. If a loved one(s) of yours has made his/her/their transition in 2021, and you would like his/her/their name to be acknowledged in a prayer during the service, please share his/her/their full name and relation to you (sister, friend, dog) with me by completing the form below by November 12th. I realize that our pets are precious, so if a winged or furry family member has made its transition, please share its name with me as well.

The last two years have been filled with many forms of loss, therefore, I thought it would be healing if our ceremonial practices during this year’s special service were also devoted to acknowledging all forms of loss. Lastly, our ceremonial time together will end with reflecting on the Divine qualities you would like to animate in your life and into the lives of others. Let us remember that death in its many forms is a doorway to new life if we are willing to acknowledge, embrace, and allow our grief to open our hearts to a greater capacity to love and be loved.

On the day of the service, I invite you to have handy 2 heart shaped paper cut-outs and 1 star paper cut-out that will be used during the service. These do not have to be anything fancy. Simple hand traced cut out shapes will do. Additionally, If you would like to include in your Zoom virtual space an image(s) of your beloved(s) or a small memento that reminds you of him/her/them please do so.

Let us come together during our “Time of Remembrance… A Time of Transformation” service to hold sacred space for one another, heal, and commit to be transformed and renewed by the healing power of Divine Love and Grace.

Love,
Rev. Angela

Honoring Grief, Together: A Journey into Winter’s Dream – Eastern Region Workshop

October 13, 2021 by admin

Let’s be honest; for the last eighteen months, our focus has mostly been on “when can we get back to normal.” In the process, we have bypassed the opportunity to accept and let go. “Honoring Grief, Together: A Journey into Winter’s Dream” is a creative and collaborative workshop experience that will allow us to explore a part of our lives that we may have bypassed during the pandemic: Grief.

  • What is grief?
  • How does it show up?
  • How can we recognize grief, accept its gifts for healing, and embrace renewed excitement for life?

“Honoring Grief, Together: A Journey into Winter’s Dream” will embrace wisdom and opportunity, using the cycle of the seasons. Winter is a time to look within, clear what may be unknown, and become ready for what will be. A time of preparation by allowing things to die and become fertilizer for new growth. As we gather and support one another in being ready for Winter, we will lean into being ready, to be ready for a new dream in Spring.

Fall Cleanup, While Keeping the Natural Ecosystem in Balance

October 6, 2021 by admin

by Ingrid Justick:

Vol. 27, No. 3

Making a few changes in your autumn garden cleanup routine benefits the soil and ultimately the health of your plants. Keeping fallen leaves and trimmings in the garden adds essential organic matter to the soil. This in turn provides food for worms and a host of other beneficial soil-dwelling creatures that break down the material, improving soil structure and delivering valuable nutrients to plants.

Instead of sending valuable organic matter to our local landfills, please recycle it into nutrient-rich compost, used for mulch, or place it in piles to provide a winter habitat for wildlife.

At summer’s end, insects take refuge in garden debris and in dry stems for over-winter protection, otherwise their blood freezes. Insects are a necessary component to plant pollination; beneficial insects help keep pests under control. Insects also serve as an essential food source for many birds and other animals. It is a natural cycle that makes a healthy ecosystem.

Removing spent flowers during the growing season will help plants to bloom longer, but once fall arrives and plants are near the end of their flowering cycle, they can be left to mature, to produce seeds, which serve as an important food source for seed-eating birds. By leaving some garden trimmings in planting beds, you are creating a natural habitat for ladybeetles, pollinating bees, praying mantis and other beneficial insects.

One of the most labor-saving, cost efficient and environmentally friendly things you can do is to leave your grass clippings on the lawn. Since grass clippings are mostly water, they decompose rapidly, so there is no thatch buildup. “Grass-cycling” also adds organic matter, stimulates the activity of earthworms (which act as a nature’s soil aerators) and turn a natural source of nitrogen back into the soil.

Unless your garden is very large, consider raking your leaves rather than using a blower or vacuum. Raking does not produce the noise or the pollution of machinery and is a healthy form of exercise.

While doing your fall cleanup, please remember that less is more of benefit to our environment, our resources and our day-to-day lives, as well as the ecosystem of our gardens.

Let us be friends with our earth, with gentleness, respect, love
and hope for a beautiful tomorrow.
